How to record with a AverTV CaptureHD H727
In this guide I will show you what I believe to be the best settings for recording using the AverTV CaptureHD.
Here is a video I uploaded to YouTube using those settings (This video is a raw one uploaded without rendering in software not used in this guide):
First off, you will need VH Capture which you can download here.
You should also make sure you have the AC-3 ACM Codec (Found in the K-Lite Codec Pack, Here), DivX Codecs and the AverMedia Center installed on your PC
Once all that is installed, open the AverMedia Center and press TV and select the source you wish to record, probably HDMI (If nothing shows up when HDMI is selected, make sure you have the source plugged into the HDMI socket on the left of the capture card). This needs to be done every time you restart your PC as the capture card kind of goes to sleep. Doing this process wakes it up!
Now you should close the AverMedia Center and open VH Capture, you can only have one program at a time open that uses the capture card.
Once VH Capture is open, in the drop down menu titled ‘Video capture source’ you should choose the AverMedia Secondary capture device. If you have the right one you will obviously see your source in the preview section.
Now.. you may have noticed that the resolution is not correct. To fix this follow the images below (This must be done every time you restart the program):
Now your video preview should look alot better quality and the correct resolution.
Next, under where it says Video compression, in the drop down menu select DivX Codec. Mine says “DivX 6.9.2 Codec (4 Logical CPUs)”, this will depend on the version of DivX you have and the CPU you have.
You should make sure the tick box next to Frame Rate is ticked and set the value to 30 (30fps is what I used on my PC, if you have a decent PC you can try 60fps too see how it looks, it may be a bit laggy, but experiment with it).
The images below will now show you how to set up the DivX Compression Settings, these settings are important.
Now that your compressor is set to record its best quality, you should set up your audio.
Under Audio compression, set the first drop down menu to ‘AC-3 ACM Codec’, and the second drop down to ’159864bps 44100Hz 2 Channel’ (I chose this setting because number 1, thats fairly high quality audio, and number 2, the H727 can only capture 2 channel audio).
There is only one more thing to do now before you can record. The last image below will show you what to do.
You should now be set for recording. Make sure when you record you don’t have to many background programs running, keep your CPU usage low and the video quality will be better.
